From August 7th to 11th, the Nairobi art scene will vibrate with emotion, healing, and fierce creativity during “Her Voice, Her Power – Wambura”, a bold new group exhibition curated by Santana Sino. This powerful showcase brings together the voices, stories, and souls of ten groundbreaking women artists who are reshaping the narrative around gender, art, and healing in Kenya and beyond.
Featured artists include Fridah Ijai, Jebet Chemng’orem, Blaine 29, Pauline Muturi, Gitamo Mokeira, Artist Nyambura, Karuma Christine, Natasha Floortje, Wangui Waithaka, and Shivan Nafula—each bringing a unique perspective rooted in lived experience, cultural memory, and unapologetic expression.
An Exhibition With Soul, Movement, and Community
The official opening takes place on Saturday, August 9th at 10 AM, and it’s far from your typical quiet gallery walk through. The day kicks off with a theatrical dance session that encourages audience participation, dissolving the wall between artist and observer. Attendees will not only witness the power of performance but become part of it—moving, feeling, and engaging with the themes of womanhood, trauma, joy, and resistance.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will interact with immersive installations and participatory artworks that challenge them to confront societal silences and celebrate inner strength. This isn’t just an art show—it’s a space for dialogue, vulnerability, and collective healing.
Sunday of Stories and Healing
The energy continues on Sunday, August 10th, with a dramatized storytelling workshop beginning at 10 AM. This workshop invites participants to tap into ancestral traditions of oral storytelling as a means of self-expression and emotional release.
Alongside this, the Art Creation Corner will give the community a chance to co-create a mural—a living, breathing artwork symbolizing unity, voice, and healing. It’s more than paint on a wall; it’s a public declaration of solidarity, strength, and feminine presence.
A powerful panel discussion on mental health and healing will close the day. In a society where such conversations are often hidden in shadows, this discussion promises to shed light, offer support, and remind us that vulnerability is a form of courage.
More Than an Exhibition—A Movement
“Her Voice, Her Power – Wambura” is presented in collaboration with Africalia (Belgique), Amani Peoples Theatre, KOLS Kenya National Library Service, HöF, and Wanjiku Creative Spaces—organizations committed to peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and empowering creativity as a force for social change.
This exhibition isn’t just about admiring art—it’s about activating it. About stepping into a space where women are not just represented, but heard, seen, and celebrated.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss This
In a time when women’s stories are still too often silenced, Her Voice, Her Power refuses to whisper. It speaks loudly, dances boldly, and invites you to witness what happens when women reclaim their narratives through art.
Whether you’re an art lover, an activist, a curious soul, or someone seeking healing, this exhibition offers something rare—authentic human connection through creativity. Don’t miss the chance to be part of it.
