Gitamo Mokeira is a self-taught contemporary visual artist, living and working in Nairobi, Kenya. She works with various media, such as acrylics, watercolour, oil pastels, oil paints, and collage to create her works. She is interested in organic and inorganic patterns and shapes occurring in life and nature. The themes expressed in her work include self-identity and actualization, freedom, love and beauty. She hopes to strike conversations on things we overlook and to understand the interconnectedness of everything. Since taking up a full-time art practice 1 ½ years ago, she has participated in various group exhibitions. She hopes through her work to inspire connection, liberation and truth. She continues to make art and shares it as a volunteer and a teacher working with children, and collaborative projects as murals and is currently pursuing 2D animation.
